Holy cow it was crowded there! I got there at 7:30 and the line was already a whole block long. I'll try and go back around 2 or 3 and check out the situation. If it's still crazy I'll just place an online order for delivery in a couple of weeks.

Hi everyone,
I am new here. I tried to google for an answer to my prob but didn't manage to find one so I hope I will be able to get some advice by posting here.
Background:-
I previously owned a JB'ed iPad1 IOS 4.3.1. A few days ago, because of a usb connectivity prob, I sent it in under the wrty. Today I was given a replacement iPad1. The prob is, for some reason, it came with the out-dated IOS 3.2 which must have been pre-activated by the service centre.
My Issue:-
Will I be able to restore from my backup such that my new iPad will be a mirror image (with exceptions for the JB) of my old iPad with IOS 4.3.1? I understand that any JB apps will disappear and am ok with that
Or will I be forced to update the IOS to 4.3.2 (whch is not desirable since there is no JB for this ver yet)?
Or should I update the IOS on my new iPad to 4.3.1 first (I have the IPSW) and then do the restoration from the backup?
Hope to get some advice from anyone. Many thanks in advance.

I'd imagine they added some major infrastructure to support the movie downloads, so, I'm betting the downloads overall will be a LOT faster with their upgrades.
Yeah, plus 4x the resolution on all videos.
They probably installed those new Intel Xservers.... I heard they are 16x as fast...:D

The whole resolution independance thing terrifies me. I just know we'll see some vendor or Apple have these annoying huge UI's that we can't shrink back down to their proper size. I mean the reason we buy this huge monitors is to shrink the UI and maximize free space right???
Maybe. But this will allow for things like 1920 x 1200 displays in the 17" MacBook. Not many people would want to run OS X on a screen that size now because everything would be tiny. But let me crank up the GUI scaling and have a higher physical resolution for the UI, so I can read everything but it's all sharper and clearer? **** yeah. Hell, put 1920 x 1200 on a 15.4" panel. 150dpi for the win. Crank up the size and the OS X GUI will look even more wonderful than it does now.

I was in my dorm's bathroom, getting ready to go to class that day. Some people in the bathroom had heard about the first plane, and were telling us - nothing concrete, I just remember hearing about a plane, and the World Trade Center. I went into the common area, turned the tv on to the news, and saw the replay of the second plane hitting. I didn't quite understand it, and went to class and in every class that day we either listened to the radio (my first class was an art studio, that's how I learned about the third and fourth planes) or the professor talked about it to some extent.

To anyone here who wants a cracked copy of Optimum 1.0, listen up:
I know how we can acquire this coveted gem of an app. But it's going to take a little bit of elbow grease on our parts.
Let's start with the basics, with what we are looking for. We are looking for iPad 1 owners who have downloaded the Optimum 1.0 app. Although rare, this combination of people and things does exist. And not only that, this rare breed has graced this site, has likely even graced this thread.
So what can we do?
Well we have two options:
-We can sit on our asses with our thumbs up our butts and wait for someone to give this to us.
Or
-We can man up, target and find these individuals and tell them them our situation, inform them of what they can do and take what is ours and what we deserve.
If you are serious about ceasing this opportunity, then continue reading. If not, go have a bowl of ice cream or something while your mom cleans your room.
Let's mobilize as a task force and seek out all forums members in threads from early in the month who discussed installing this app and accessing it over VPN. Even if these members do not report successfully implementing and accessing a VPN for roaming connectivity, they still might have the app installed. Let's seek these people out and PM them. It won't take long, only a few minutes of our time. But these people are out there and we need to find them. We can find them. and we will find them.

Well, sleeping it should be better than keeping it running because only the RAM will be powered when sleeping. When the parts are not powered, the risk of failure is smaller. In the end, all electronics have a limited lifespan. Of course, if you have a reason to leave it running then it is different (e.g. downloading something).
Personally, my iMac is always on when I am at home and awake. When I leave home or go to sleep, I sleep my iMac. Same goes for my MBA but it is sleeping unless I'm using it.

Actually, the big display prices *must* come down soon, because regular 32" tv can be bought for 500 euros nowadays. A display which has HDMI input, which means it can be connected to a DVI computer card rather easily.
Now I don't mean to say that a regular 32" TV that costs 500 would compete with a 30" ACD in terms of colour accuracy or top resolution, but I'm saying if someone wants a big display it can be done for peanuts. And as people discover this they're not going to buy "overpriced" computer displays that are meant for one purpose only.
No HDTV competes with the resolution of a 30" COMPUTER monitor...
Apples and oranges, man.

I actually did something similar awhile back. Except I did three partitions and used MBR instead of GUID, if that's what you were using. I set the NTFS partition as the first, so Windows computers without Boot Camp could still use the drive without me having to install anything or do any extra work to make it work. Not sure if computers without Boot Camp will read NTFS partitions outside of the first with MBR, never tried.
Second and third partitions were both HFS+. The second partition was for general storage, while the third was strictly for Time Machine.
Ultimately, it's been working pretty well for me.
The only downside is, on computers WITH Boot Camp installed, I sometimes have trouble ejecting the drive. It's constantly complaining it's in use, when it usually isn't. However, on computers WITHOUT Boot Camp, it ejects just fine.
Windows, amirite? :p

CD-RW, not CD-RX. I'm sorry:o It says "Burning the disk failed because this type of CD is not supported. Error: 0x80020043. What am I doing?
Heather
Heather, what is "CD-RX?" I've never heard of that format. Is that interchangeable with CD-RW? The latter is the standard read-write format supported by most burners....

I agree.
Tho I really wonder who is using Facetime? I know everyone talks about it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's like the webcam on my mac, yeah it's nice to have when I call my mom across the country, but it's something I'd use about 0.01% of the time, and if I were going to use it, it's more likely I'd tell my mom to get on the computer and skype me on my computer to have full screen HD video chat...
I use FaceTime every other night to speak with my daughter.

- MobileMe Control Panel for Windows (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL769) updates the application to version 1.5.1 and is a required update for existing users to ensure compatibility with iTunes 9.1 (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/30/apple-releases-itunes-9-1-to-support-ipad/).MobileMe Control Panel is required to manage iDisk settings and to sync contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC.
This update is required for Windows computers running iTunes 9.1.The update weighs in at 2.39 MB.
- Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility is used in enterprise settings to allow system administrators to manage configuration profiles and applications, as well as for collecting information from device logs. The new iPhone Configuration Utility 2.2 is available for Mac OS X 10.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL851) (6.94 MB) and Windows (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL926) (29.51 MB).

Unfortunately, you don't seem to realize that we're not talking about 'the rich.' JoeG4 was obviously talking about the large population of middle and lower class conservatives.
And yes, most giving, charity, is at least somewhat self-serving. (this might be a bit too Ayn Randian for you, but...) If for no other reason, giving to charity makes people feel good about themselves, gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride for assisting their fellow man. Does this mean that the act is any less genuine or valuable? I don't think so, but that's just me.
I apologise if I'm breaking your "rules" but I,m talking about the divide between charity i.e. helping those that are in dire need of help, they receive around 10% of U.S. charitable donations and the self serving tax racket with which the rich provide for them and theirs, the other 90%.In your somewhat confusing posts it appears it's OK to give to your own economic class for selfish reasons but not apparently to vote for a government which will pass legislation favouring your economic class. Incidentally by talking of lower and middle classes you are referring to social class not as should be apparent to most people economic classes. Also please refrain from quoting a romantic novelist in what should be a serious discussion.

So, my beloved MacBook Air "13 Ultimate (2.13GHz / 4GB / 25GB) Fans go crazy whenever i watch flash, for example i watch CTFXc (like 12 mins videos) and the fans are kicking in almost instantly and keep spinning until a few minutes after i stop watching the videos.
Now, this problem weren't that bad when i got it, that was around january, back then the weather was a lot colder outside than it is now.
January = -15 to -5 C
Now = 10 to 26 C
I have no idea if it's the weather (:D) but that's my theori.
Is this normal or what? when i feel it, it doesn't feel that warm, like my MacBook Pro does for instance.
Hope you guys can help.
Hope you had a nice weekend.:apple:

My 12" PowerBook's hard drive whirs softly (audible from typing distance), but doesn't make any of the clicking sounds that my iBook used to make...my iBook made pretty pronounced grinding sounds when the hard drive was being heavily accessed. My iMac G3 couldn't be used if my roommate was asleep as the hard drive noises could wake a mountain.
The only time hard drive noise is bad is if it sounds like the hard drive is grating or grinding, or can't get going. This happened when my external hard drive had a head crash...it made a screeching, grinding noise, turned off, and when I turned it back on it made this weak clanking sound and wouldn't spin up.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.
